Favre still has a lot to do in Dortmund

Signal Iduna Park has been very busy this summer, with many newcomers have come and also many players have gone. However, the refreshing team has not finished yet. In front of Lucien Favre is still a sprawling site.

According to Heiko Herrlich, a former Dortmund player currently leading Leverkusen, his former team will be crowned at the end of the 2018/19 season. This outlook may have been due to Dortmund's positive performances on the US tour, and Herrlich thought Lucien Favre was the perfect team to overthrow Bayern.

Actually, things are not so great. The transfer window will close at the end of August, but Dortmund have so far failed to bring in a great striker, replacing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who left earlier this year and Michy Batshuayi returning to Chelsea. Although Maximilian Philipp and Alexander Isak have scored in the past friendly games, it is hard to believe the two are capable of providing 30 goals at the end of the season.

Besides, Favre still needs to strengthen a defensive midfielder. Unlike the center-forward, at least he has identified the player he needs, Axel Witsel. Negotiations are still deadlocked. According to Paulo Sousa, the coach of Tianjin Quanjian, the Belgian midfielder, there is no news of a transfer. He said Witsel will return to practice on August 5 and will continue to play in China until the end of the season.

Christian Pulisic's mission is also important. The American player was impressed during the summer and emerged as a new star at Signal Iduna Park. The problem is that his contract expires in 2020 but has not been signed yet, while the big clubs are closely following.

Liquidation is also a heavy task
Favre needs to streamline the squad, which has swelled to 28 players despite the departure of Andre Schuerrle, Gonzalo Castro, Sokratis, Andriy Yarmolenko and Erik Durm.

Jeremy Toljan is one of the top names in the liquidation list, after failing to prove his worth even in the summer with a € 7m contract. If Witsel joined Dortmund, the possibility of Sebastian Rode, who played just one match last season, and Nuri Sahin, the midfielder who has been playing poorly for the past four seasons, has also left the signal of Signal Iduna Park. Their future is only rethought in the case of Julian Weigl to PSG.

Favre has always stressed the importance of Weigl, but the Paris captain has a huge temptation for the 22-year-old. There, he will be reunited with teacher Thomas Tuchel and be playing alongside the world's top stars in the task of replacing Thiago Motta.

In the near future, the scheme that Dortmund deploys is 4-3-3 or 4-1-4-1. However, Pulisic, Marco Reus, Jadon Sancho, Marius Wolf, Sergio Gomez, Philipp and Mario Goetze along with Shinji Kagawa, plus young talented American Jacob Bruun Larsen, was too much for the attacking system. Which of them fell into liquidation? Kagawa can be a candidate, when not more than 13 matches in the Bundesliga two seasons.

Dortmund was allowed to hand over
From early summer, Dortmund spent 53 million euros to buy while collecting 48.4 million dollars selling players. That means they are losing 4.6 million. But the huge profit of 141 million last season (buy 109.8 million, 250.9 million) allows Dortmund to hand over, spend 50 million on Witsel and a big shot.
