Liverpool do not have a repeat of Arsenal's unbeaten run

Former Arsenal psychologist David Elliott said Liverpool were unlikely to re-establish the unbeaten record of the Premier League as the Gunners did in 2003/04.

So far, the unbeaten Arsenal that set up in the 2003/04 England Premiership has not had enough of a re-establishment. Even the mighty Man City last season had to give up when they got the final two defeats. Coach Pep Guardiola insists the only thing he wants in his players is to win the championship instead of the unbeaten. That is also part of the reason why The Citizens fell 0-2 to Chelsea recently.

Elliott was a psychologist when Arsenal won the 2003/04 Premier League with an unbeaten run. He insists the players need long-term goals as well as the determination to achieve results. Both Man City and Liverpool are unlikely to lose, so it is hard to replicate the Gunners' performance.

"I think what happened in 2004 was the greatest achievement of the English Premier League, the longest and the most intense test." The key is in the vision Juergen Klopp owns a great team. And they can re-establish Arsenal's record but it will be extremely difficult.

Man City are excellent clubs but even the best players need to be challenged to ensure they crave greatness. If they win the league once, what inspires them in the next season? That's the key. Long-term goals are something to aim for.

Arsenal was a competitive squad. We talked about the goals at the end of the 2001/02 season when we got the chance to win. Arsenal have 12 games remaining. We ask for the score to be achieved and the players have set a goal of 30 points. But I said, "Wait, you have not lost 6 points before you start!" This made the players determined and they won 12 games.

The next season, I told Wenger we must set a goal unbeaten. He thought I was crazy. I went to a business seminar in which they suggested the best way was to publicize the target through the press, which is why Arsene talked about it. Arsenal did not accomplish this goal in the first season, some players did not like it and felt pressure. So, I left the club in 2003. But Wenger persuaded me to come back and we did it in 2003/04, "Elliott said.
